I just picked up the softest, large, deep brown leather Anne Klein bag, and a Ralph Lauren deep brown embossed croc leather bag, for practically nothing. They are just gorgeous. The only problem is I wear mostly black. Is there any hope of integrating these into my wardrobe? Any ideas? Would maybe a scarf with browns and black help, or maybe a lighter brown top with the black, to tie in the brown bag, or are these darker brown bags just hopeless with black ;-(?

No need to do anything to 'integrate the brown bags with a mostly black wardrobe. A gorgeous brown bag goes *perfectly* all on its own with an all black outfit - in fact better than a black handbag would imho - much more stylish.

Brown is great with black. It's navy and black that's a problem.

I agree with Blushun. Brown is a very neutral color and adds a little bit of flair to a black ensemble.

Indeed.
Also, I think what will make the difference is the richness and 'tone' of the brown. Some browns are muddy and some have a lovely reddish undertone

I completely agree with everyone else. Brown and black look great together. I think it's the color of the brown and the type and quality of the accessory that make or break the look.
I've seen camel shoes with a black bag, black sweater and white pants in a magazine that look great together (for fall). If this can work, I think many other color mixes can as well, and look far more stylish than a soap-operaesque completely matched ensemble.

Thanks guys, but the problem is this is a deep expresso brown, and not a lighter brown, or reddish brown that does look better with black ;-(. With the moc croc bag it's less of a problem, as it has a different glossier texture and the brown is a bit lighter, and warmer. The Anne Klein though is more a regular smooth leather, and is a deep brown color. Would look much better if it were lighter, but at $35.99 for a $245 awesome looking, gorgeous, butter leather bag, it was not going to get left at Leohmans...LOL! I just thought it looked strange with black being that deep a brown ;-(. Wonder if there's any polish I could use to make it black, that won't come off. There was one that coated the leather, but this is too nice a leather to cover.
Would you keep the shoes black, or wear brown there too?

Just my personal take on it, but I'd do all black including shoes with no brown, and then add the handbag. If I needed to add a contrasting color it would be white or eggshell blouse, but for me it would be pretty easy to do full black, black shoes, and brown bag. Claire in SF
