I was looking at these at the Clinique counter last night but they didn't have the one I wanted to try, nor a tester for it. It's the red one - rich cherry, maybe? Can anyone describe the color for me? Is it warm or cool (the swatch looked cool, but that doesn't mean a lot). Does it bear any resemblance to Angel Red (which I LOVE) or to Ruby Melt (which doens't work for me)?

And how do these things wear anyway? Are they more sheer than Almost Lipsticks? More creamy than Different Lipsticks? Are there any other colors I should try (keeping in mind that if it's too pale or too warm or brown at all, I won't touch it).

Many, many TIA!!!

Well gee, I am a huge fan of these lipsticks but I can't answer any of your questions because (a) I haven't worn any other Clinique lipsticks, apart from these, in years and thus can't compare, and (b) I'm very warm-toned and have not even looked at the cool-toned Moisture Sheers!

I can tell you, though, that these things are fabulous. They are the only so-called moisturizing lipsticks that I find truly moisturizing, as in my perpetually dry lips don't even need balm under these babies. They are glossy but not sticky or greasy, and they are nicely pigmented. I find that they wear well, in that they do tend to lose their glossiness but they leave a nice stain behind. I have and love Sheer Neutral (or is it Natural? something like that...), Sheer Spice, and Honey Red, all of which will be too warm for you. Though come to think if it, Sheer Spice is not overly warm - in fact, I was afraid it would be too cool for me, but it works somehow.

I hope this helped a little! Probably not, but I can't resist a chance to rave about these things!

The Wicked Witch asks:

Woah, no tester? What kind of rogue Clinique counter is that?

Those swatches are kind of poor - it's on the warmer side, I'd say, but because it's sheer it kind of can go either way. For instance, I can wear it, whereas Angel Red kinda makes me look weird.

It's closer to Angel Red than Ruby Melt, definitely. Consistency-wise, a little more pigmented than Ruby Melt but less so than Angel Red.

I love these and can wear almost all of the colors! They do tend to last longer than you'd think (longer than the Different Lipsticks last on me) and offer more pigment than the Almost Lipsticks. You can layer the color for more or less with these, whereas with the Almosts I find one application and that's all you're gonna get coverage-wise. Offhand you might like Red Honey, Ruby Kiss, Tender Mauve, and/or the Rich Cherry. Ruby Kiss might be too 'red' for you but it goes on less so. I love Pink Blast, but it might be too pink for your liking - it's pretty though. Sheer Spice is pretty popular too but might be too warm - just a thought though.

Okay, that's it! I'm getting at least one now. I'll check out the other colors you mentioned too. I'm sure there was *supposed* to be a tester - I went at the end of the day and it was busy at the counter, being bonus time and all. The testers they did have were mostly mangled. This was in Macy's - maybe I'll go to Nordstrom to check these out.

Thanks for a very helpful post!

I have Clinique Moisture Sheer Lipsticks in 'Honey Red', 'Pink Blast', 'Rich Cherry', and 'Ruby Kiss'. I find the texture of these lipsticks nicer than the Almost Lipsticks with, perhaps, a little more coverage.

'Honey Red' is a creme very much the color of the red bricks that line our balcony.

'Pink Blast' is a hot pink creme. Love the color but for some reason always prefer a little shimmer in hot pink lipsticks.

'Rich Cherry' is a slightly iridescent black cherry color, not terribly dark. I used this while on vacation in England/France the last couple of weeks and this is going to be a favorite for this season.

'Ruby Kiss' is an easy-to-wear soft red, more a true red than the cranberry-ish red of 'Angel Red' Different Lipstick. I found the color of 'Ruby Melt' Almost Lipstick a bit off and didn't like its waxy texture; but they got the bugs out in 'Ruby Kiss' which I must say is rather similar. This color I use more in the warm months than in autumn and winter when I prefer berry reds.
