I'm wondering if the group can opine on the subject of heel shapes for fall/winter shoes. I was checking out the Prada collection on the Saks web site, and I see all different shapes of heels. They show regular stilletos, the set-back slightly chunky style, the kitten heel, and something that looks suspiciously like the Louis heel on some shoes I just donated to the local charity thrift shop:

I'm speaking specifically of the heel on the bow trim pump, the Spazzolato loafer pump, and the button trim fabric pump, which you see if you scroll down the page.

I'm figuring that where Prada leads, other shoe manufacturers follow, and I like to be a bit ahead of the curve with my shoe purchases, because it's a great way to update a look. On the other hand, I have bought some styles (notably a pair of shovel-toed flat mary janes in 2001 or so) that basically bombed. So I'd like some opinions on what looks like it's really the Coming Thing. I'm asking because I just bought three pairs of pointy-toed pumps and now I'm hearing that pointy toes are going out.

Thanks!

I have been trying to figure that out, too. As you mentioned, heels seem to be all over the place this season. One thing I'm not seeing much of is wedge heels; I wonder if those are on their way out? I've been seeing quite a bit of a heel I don't particularly care for. I don't know what it's called - from the side it looks like a straight, almost stilleto-ish heel, but end-on it's a wide bar sort of thing. These seem like they'd stabilize the foot more than a stilleto would, but something about it just looks wrong to me.

The only heel I hate, hate, HATE is the one on the 'posted slingback'. You are right that the rest of the heels here seem to be all across the board. I regard that as a great thing, as it makes existing shoes I have blend with the current styles.

<snip reference to heels on this site looking like old shoes of OP>

That heel was all over my shoes in the 80s -Not that that's a bad thing, as many of the fall things I'm seeing are hearkening back to that era in some way (black white and red or yellow, skinny pants, leather biker jackets, bright tights, etc).

I'm probably not going for this heel, but it would be easy to pick some up at a resale shop for an update, heck, THREE updates under $10. How often can you get this close for so little?

My vote, though, goes to kitten and stiletto. Long may they live! -Beckett
