There are quite a few Hermes scarves on ebay starting very low prices. Original and new, they go for $300. Does anyone know if hermes scarves are commonly 'knocked off' and sold as the real thing? Thanks,
tess

If you are interested in buying Hermes scarves on eBay, I suggest you join one of the Yahoo groups devoted to Hermes products. Head to the Yahoo Groups site and do a search for 'Hermes.' AllThingsHermes is one such group; another is HermesScarves.

Many of the members of these groups buy scarves on eBay all the time. They post photographs of authentic scarves and there are also text files you can download on how to identify authentic scarves. People who scoop up all the current season's designs also post their latest buys, so these sites are a great way to get a look at what's new as well as older designs.

Here are some guidelines for determining whether a scarf is authentic: 90 sq. cm or approximately 35 square inches is the standard size for the silk twill carre; the name Hermes may be included, but it is NOT plastered all over the place; the name of the design is usually printed somewhere on the scarf, as well as the name of the artist; Hermes is spelled with the accent grave over the second 'e,' and the hems are hand-stitched and rolled towards the front of the scarf. The care label should be in French or French and English. The word 'seta' on the care label is a dead giveaway that you're looking at an Italian knock off!

HTH, and good luck on eBay!

Do most of you say 'an' Hermes or 'a' Hermes? I find myself saying 'an'. Just curious.

There are certainly 'knock-offs' on eBay, but there are also folks selling authentic scarves from estates, etc.

If you stick to the dealers who have lots of good feedback and show lots of closeup pictures, you should be fine.

Yikes, I own a bunch of them and wear them all the time. I must look older than Methuselah's mother.

Oh well. There are compensations for being a woman of a certain age. And Hermes scarves are one of them. The other is serious jewelry. I could use some more of that, .

Most are real...but there's always a slew of fakes.

Rule of thumb, look at a seller's feedback, and follow the guidlines Priscilla

Hi
I've been perusing Hermès scarves on ebay for some years now and am aching to buy one but am frightened I will be taken. I've done what research I can and yet, as a journalist, have found it impossible to find a comprehensive listing of all of their scarves. Might there be somewhere I could find one?

Many thank for any help,

la baroness
