Rant: Rude Fashion Magazine Editors

Dear Mary:

My boss is bright, organized, and kind, but she tries to dress like a 20-year-old and she's pushing 40. Everyone makes fun of her behind her back and as a result I don't think she's well respected. Would it be wildly out of line for me to drop a few hints that she might want to reconsider her look?

Oh my God! She's pushing 40? And she's still out in the world? Shouldn't she be in geriatric care? It must be difficult on the rest of you. I imagine that by this time she smells quite bad as the old do tend to go off and emit that terrible... old odour.

My advice to you? I wouldn't burn out any more of those tender, young, almost new, and apparently relatively unused brain cells of yours worrying about her.

Mary Walsh (Elle Canada)

Not only is that a terribly lame response, it is very rude and totally uncalled for. FC asked a fair question without a lot of attitude and others have asked the same type of question in the past in other publications, and got fair answers.

I don't believe even the girl's boss would have taken offense like Walsh did. The age thing must have struck a nerve. I've read this Walsh character before sound like a bitch. If she gets kicked from Elle, there's probably an opening for her on hissyfit.com.

FC is so dense, he/she/it probably thinks it's cool to quote someone here on AF on he/she/its page re: the Reese Witherspoon chin thread. BTW, FC's site is not for anyone who finds popups and tracewebs cool.

An employee who calls herself 'Fashion Cop' and writes to complain about her boss who's 'pushing 40'. Who's the rude one here? Mary Walsh was being flippant and deservedly so, IMO.

I had one of my co-workers say at one of my at-work birthday parties that 'Charlie's over 40? He doesn't act that way!'

One of my 50-something co-workers responded, 'Well, what do you think you're supposed to act like when you're over 40?'

I guess Charlie's supposed to be dead! LOL! Jeez......
