Things I hadnt thought of re - red lipstick

Okay so I bought Rimmel's lipstick in Heat (not too sure just how red this is turning out to be - had it on for about 5 minutes - looks more pink than red) and it made me think about what color clothes and eye shadow can be worn with red lipstick.

I've really just started to love green eyeshadow (either Maybelline Cool Effects shadow/liner in Cold Cash or L'Oreal Eye Smoker in Forest). Well it looks a little Christmassy with red lips. Lol. Not to mention red lips don't go with tan shorts and a minty green shirt.

For those of you who wear red lipstick -

what other make-up do you wear with it, do you only wear it for special occasions or everyday, with certain clothes??

I looked up red lipstick on Google but January 2002 was the most recent posts about it (colors get discontinued).

What are your favorite red lipsticks - drug store brands please?

I have brown eyes, dark brown hair, couldn't tell you my skin tone (I tan easily but I guess I look yellow rather than pink), and I like blue/red better than orange/red. If anyone saw the movie Mulholland Drive - I loved Laura Herring's look - dark hair, looked like no eye make-up, and red nails and lips.

I only wear reddish tones on special occasions, it's just my personal preference. My everyday style is a little too um, earthy to get away with it. When I do, I like to use a gloss to soften it up a bit. As for the eyes, usually if you do strong lips, it's best to do neutral or low key eyes. Maybe a neutral color with a little shimmer like Stila Kitten, or Bobbi Brown's sparkledust in Champagne. HTH

I thought it might be a bit dramatic for everyday but when I said that here about red nail polish I was told it's okay cos it's a classic color. Does seem a bit wild though.

What reds do you wear?

That sounds good. Probably the L'Oreal Fresco stuff in Iced Coffee would be okay with red lips.

A red I like is MAC 'O'. It has a purpley undertone and a goldish shimmer, but it is a red. It has a lot of dimension. I've heard it described differently by others. I think it really depends on your coloring what it brings out. HTH.

MAC was mentioned a lot in those old threads for having good reds. Yeah, coloring will make a huge difference.

I have the Mac 'O' and love it. The Sally Hansen Midnight Mauve Frost matches it perfectly.

Never would have thought of Sally Hansen for lipstick but they have one called Red Peppers (crème) that looks good on the website.

Hi, Sophie. I am a dark brunette, hazel eyes, yellowish skin undertones. I love (blue) red lipsticks and wear them pretty often. I don't find red lipstick _that_ dramatic, but I typically wear reds with a very simple face: thin eyeliner and mascara. The look that Laura Hemmings used in MD is pretty similar. It's a classic look, and as long as you minimize the other cosmetics you wear, I think it's an okay everyday face (well, mostly. I wouldn't wear it with really casual clothes). Cheers, Morgan

Yep, everything else has to be pretty plain to carry off red lips I think.

Oohh, well I discovered SH has lipstick too so it's not a bad misunderstanding. Lol.
