Some of you may remember that I cut my hair short recently, well I still HATE it, I'm growing it but it will take about a year to get back to where it was before. So when I saw a pretty wig on Ebay today I was very tempted. Its a 1920's flapper style, finger waved short bob (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem& item=714592806). But...............a wig??? Will it look fake? Will it fall off/slip askew? Opinions please!!!!

I would think it depends on the quality of the wig. For example, the sales person helping me at Neimans had beautiful hair. After telling her so, she smiled and whispered that it was a wig. I couldn't believe it. She was about 25 and it looked very natural. She told me she had overslept and didn't have time to do her hair.

There are wigs that are poor quality and you can spot a cheap wig a block away. My mother purchased a wig online and it looked hilarious on her. She keeps it in a box for Halloween.

Trudie, I wore a wig for six months while I was undergoing chemo. I went to 6-7 wig shops trying on wigs before I found one that I liked. I would not buy one sight unseen off of the internet as you cannot return them. I don't know about the wig on ebay, but I found that wigs with bangs generally looked more real than those without. It is very difficult to get a natural looking hairline without bangs on a wig. It will not fall off - a problem I had was at times the wig would feel very tight - remember I did not have any hair. I live in a tropical climate and it was hot at times also. However, for me it was a lifesaver during the treatment.

I would suggest that you go to a few local wig shops and try some on.

I totally agree with everything here, having also worn a wig during chemotherapy. I never got so many compliments on my hair as when I wore it, and no one realized until I told them it was a wig.

Mine was synthetic, but very realistic. The synthetic aspect of it meant I didn't have to fuss with it - wash it, brush it gently, wear it. No setting necessary.

Thanks everyone for your input, I still like the idea but I'm going to take your advice, steer clear of the wigs online and attempt (ATTEMPT!) to find an actual shop here in the UK who do good quality wigs. Of course, my hair may grow before I find one.....
